What's next for EchoRing - Smart Ring with Alexa Integration
Inspiration
Modern smart home technology needs fast and effortless controls. We wanted to build a seamless wearable solution that connects directly with Amazon's Ring ecosystem and Alexa, allowing users to Trigger emergency alerts and control smart devices instantly.
What it does
EchoRing is a wearable smart ring integrated with Amazon Ring services. It allows users to:
- Send instant SOS alerts and emergency notifications to loved ones.
- Control smart home devices with subtle hand gestures and tap controls.
- Receive haptic feedback for real-time security alerts.
How we built it
We built EchoRing using AWS IoT Core for device management, Ring APIs for security integration, and Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) for voice-assisted commands. The prototype hardware connects over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to a companion mobile application built with React Native.
Challenges we ran into
- Optimizing battery efficiency on a tiny wearable form factor.
- Reducing latency for emergency SOS triggers over wireless connections.
- Seamlessly mapping hardware gestures to Ring and Alexa API endpoints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully creating a low-latency trigger system for instant Ring alerts.
- Developing a compact prototype with reliable gesture detection.
- Building a seamless cross-platform companion mobile app.
What we learned
- Deep understanding of integrating AWS IoT and Alexa Skills Kit.
- Best practices for power management and latency reduction in BLE hardware.
- Structuring robust APIs for smart home security automation.
