Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from envy. Envy of people receiving messages, greeting cards, bouquets from people they love, and miss. I miss my mom, who died 4 years ago. I wish I could hear her voice, get a scolding. She died from suicide, so she was going through things she's never speak to us about. But I am sure, if she could have, she'd have left us messages.
Another exampple is my young cousin, only 45years old, died of colon cancel. He has 2 boys, one is very young. He knew he was going to die and he planned everything before leaving this world. If he could, I am sure he's leave messages to his boys, especially the younger one.
My teammate for this project, Sara, is battling cancer currently. She said if there was a platform like this, she'd use it. There are a couple of competitors, but nobody knows about them. So we build our own, more advanced, more secure, and more well known. I want to ensure that nobody leaves this world without having a platform to voice their love.
What it does
People can schedule messages into the future - up to 10 years - for people. Family receive the messages on the day it is scheduled for, on that email address.
The human can:
- Type, record a message
- attach photos, videos, voice notes.
- They can also send it as a time capsule to themselves whilst sending to their loved one
How we built it
- The website was build on Bolt. We have supabase integrations.
- There are 7 AI guardrails to ensure that the website is not misused for spam etc
To test the website, please use only the magic link. one you go in, the schedule messages is not completely working as it is not keeping the data.
Challenges we ran into
The prototype built initially was perfect but the login was hard. Sara worked for days to get the magic links to work
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Team work makes the dream work! We started this project just a week ago and we're very proud of how it has turned out!
What we learned
From a design/Bolt perspective, ensure we prompt correctly For coding, the folders are not neat, so gets confusing with some code in one folder, some code in another. But we learned to read all files before making any changes.
What's next for echonote
This needs to become a full native app with all planned functionalities. It's ridiculous to expect a sick person to open their laptop or remember the name/url of our website.
