EchoMind - Gentle Reminders, Lasting Memories
Inspiration
After watching Napo, a film about memory and connection, we thought : what if people with dementia or Alzheimer’s had a way to preserve and share their memories? That idea became EchoMind - helping elderly individuals not only remember but also feel remembered.
What it does
- Recognizes familiar faces with vision AI
- Tracks daily routines and gives reminders
- Maintains a personal memory journal
- Provides empathetic voice interaction
- Keeps caregivers and families informed
How we built it
- Voice AI for natural conversations
- Computer vision for face recognition
- NLP to understand and recall context
- Cloud integration for secure data storage
- Accessible UI designed for elderly users
Challenges we ran into
- Integrating voice, vision, and journaling in one system
- Making it accessible for elderly users with minimal tech skills
- Balancing privacy with caregiver updates
- Designing AI responses that feel empathetic
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- ✅ Built a working prototype with face recognition + memory recall
- ✅ Created a non-intimidating design for elderly users
- ✅ Combined emotional support with functional reminders
What we learned
- Accessibility means designing with the user in mind
- As days pass, memories fade - and it’s often harder for loved ones to forget than for the person themselves. EchoMind reminded us that preserving memories is about healing families too.
- Privacy and emotional sensitivity are equally important
What’s next for EchoMind
- 🌍 Add multi-language support
- ⌚ Integrate with wearable devices for health + memory tracking
- 📊 Build a caregiver dashboard for personalized updates
- 🏥 Collaborate with healthcare providers for deployment
