Inspiration
Traditional Media was a big inspiration on this project, with the concept revolving around how social media can be expanded upon through the lens of XR. The idea of placing notes around reflects posting on social media with the twist that it gets you out and about with your local community.
What it does
Echoes allows the user to place audio notes wherever they go. Audio notes can be recorded and stored at a location, where they will remain for others to stumble across and listen to. Simply record your thoughts, drop your note, and wait for others to find it.
How we built it
We built Echoes in Lens Studio for the Snap Spectacles AR glasses. We utilized the audio recording features of the spectacles with location tracking from a FireBase API to allow for record.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a few challenges with Lens Studio, as it was the first time using it for all of us. There were also a number of issues with the location API's that we implemented.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Simply having a product after 36 hours on an engine that none of us had ever used, with people we had never met, and at half of our team's first hackathon was an accomplishment in and of itself. We are also proud of our togetherness, and that each person did their part to make the whole project.
What we learned
We learned how to create with AR, Spectacles, and Lens Studio, as well as further cementing our abilities in collaborating in GitHub. We also received a lesson in demoing, as we got to go out and have others try out our product.
What's next for Echoes
Next on the list for Echoes would be adding tags to filter which notes you want to see, a like system to show popularity of notes and possibly determine lifespan of notes, a map to find nearby notes, and a leaderboard to show the most liked notes.
