EchoAid Project Story

Inspiration

Drawing inspiration from nature’s own marvels, EchoAid embodies the spirit of innovation and empowerment. Just as wings grant birds the freedom to soar and signals guide travelers to their destinations, EchoAid aims to be a guiding light for individuals facing daily challenges due to disabilities. Imagine the world through the eyes of a bat, navigating the darkness with precision—this is the vision behind EchoAid. Utilizing advanced NFC technology, EchoAid transforms everyday obstacles into manageable tasks, offering a beacon of support and independence. With a simple tap, users like Cecilia, who is blind, can effortlessly manage medications and ensure their food is fresh, eliminating the stress of uncertainty. EchoAid is not just an app; it’s a promise of a more accessible world, where everyone can navigate their day with confidence and ease.

What it does

EchoAid is your pocket-sized hero, transforming everyday items into chatty companions for folks with visual impairments, the elderly, and anyone with memory hiccups. Tap an item, and boom! It talks back, thanks to magic NFC tags.

How we built it

With Swift, creativity, and Figma, we crafted EchoAid on iOS. Figma guided our design, focusing on accessibility with clear color contrasts. It was a coding ride, blending NFC tech, voice messages, and a user-friendly app, all powered by coffee.

Challenges we ran into

Juggling time zones with teammates split between NY and the UK was like coordinating a global symphony. Adding NFC integration into our iOS app threw us some curveballs, making it a real puzzle. But, tackling these obstacles was all part of the adventure.

Accomplishments we're proud of

Conquering time zone chaos and crafting a fully functional app feels like winning a marathon. From just an idea to an app that can truly make a difference, it's been an epic journey of teamwork and tech magic.

What we learned

Tech's potential to transform lives is boundless! Our team's diverse strengths—from coding wizards and design gurus to ace organizers and spirited leaders—proved that together, we're unstoppable. Every challenge was a lesson in collaboration, innovation, and pushing beyond limits.

What's Next for EchoAid

Next up, we're partnering with disability organizations for real-world testing with blind users, refining EchoAid based on their feedback. We aim to integrate AI for tag-free object recognition, pushing towards global expansion. Our goal: make EchoAid a universal tool for independence.
