GlobalBridge : Breaking Language Barriers with Real-Time Translation

Inspiration

As a team of immigrants, we understand how challenging it can be to communicate in a new language. Whether in school, work meetings, or daily conversations, language barriers often create frustration and isolation. We wanted to create a tool that helps people connect effortlessly, no matter what language they speak. Additionally, we aimed to give a voice to those who use sign language, making conversations more inclusive for everyone.

What It Does

GlobalBridge is a real-time translation platform that seamlessly integrates with various meeting apps through a browser extension. It provides instant translation for live conversations, allowing users to communicate smoothly in different languages. Additionally, it includes a sign language recognition feature that converts sign language into text, enabling those who don’t know sign language to understand and engage in conversations.

How We Built It

We developed GlobalBridge using a combination of AI-powered speech recognition, machine translation, and computer vision:

Speech-to-Text & Translation: We integrated real-time speech recognition with AI-based translation models to deliver fast and accurate translations.
Sign Language Recognition: Using image recognition and machine learning, our system identifies sign language gestures and converts them into text.
Browser Extension: We built an easy-to-use browser extension that allows users to integrate GlobalBridge with various meeting platforms seamlessly.

Challenges We Ran Into

Real-Time Accuracy: Ensuring fast and accurate translations across multiple languages was a major challenge. We had to optimize AI models to reduce latency while maintaining precision.
