Inspiration

So 2nd of Nov was my birthday and I felt very sad cuz I felt like I had not accomplished much in the past year. I know this was a sad thing to think on a birthday and felt like I lack the power to see good in bad. Hence made a small little journal app that does the "looking for good in bad" for you...

What it does

It's a journal app. when you are done writing, you just press the echo button. (and wait for a few seconds [sometimes more if i hit the rate limits. but mostly, it's quite instant]). You get affirmations

How we built it

Frontend in Expo (cuz free). Backend in Appwrite (cuz free). LLM - Gemini 2.5 Flash (cuz hehe).

Challenges we ran into

I had no idea how to work with functions in appwrite. Was a pain in the arse. Also their MCP server freakin sucks.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The project was completed in around 24 hours. Which was quite cool. thanks to copilot ofcourse. it helped a lot

What we learned

Not to use expo go when in rush. Not a good idea.

What's next for ECHO Journal

It's just an MVP!!!! i am thinking of completing it fully. but we'll see. NOTE - This is not anywhere close to my vision. but the MVP itself felt promising..
