Inspiration
As a student, I found myself constantly switching between disconnected tools for notes, assignments, schedules, AI assistants, and progress tracking. While AI tools could answer questions, none truly understood my learning journey or helped me study strategically over time.
I wanted to build something that goes beyond a chatbot—an intelligent academic companion that learns alongside the student. This led to the idea of ECHO, an Academic Digital Twin that models a student's knowledge, analyzes academic documents, predicts learning gaps, and provides actionable insights to improve learning outcomes.
What it does
ECHO is an AI-powered Academic Digital Twin that transforms academic documents into personalized learning insights.
Students can upload syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, and study materials. ECHO extracts topics, deadlines, and course structures to build a dynamic Digital Twin representing the student's academic progress.

We also used OpenAI Codex and GitHub Copilot to accelerate development, improve code quality, and rapidly iterate on both frontend and backend features.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing a system capable of understanding academic documents that vary greatly in format and structure. Extracting meaningful information such as modules, topics, and deadlines required building a flexible processing pipeline.
Another challenge was creating a Digital Twin that represents meaningful academic progress instead of displaying static metrics. We also focused heavily on creating an intuitive interface that makes complex learning analytics easy to understand.
Deploying and integrating a full-stack application with separate frontend and backend services also required careful configuration.
