Inspiration
A personal experience of being denied medication due to an outdated student card exposed a significant issue at my university. Despite being visibly unwell, I faced difficulties because the outdated card raised doubts about my eligibility for the Medical Insurance Scheme. The university was updating cards, but the process wasn’t immediate. This experience highlighted the inefficiencies of frequent card updates. I envisioned a solution where a digital student card is issued once every four academic years, eliminating delays and providing consistent access to essential services throughout the entire period.
What it does
Ecard facilitates seamless multi-modular authentication, making ID verification easy and convenient
How we built it
Ecard is a physical smart card with an embedded chip and a printed QR code, it also has digital instance. Both the card and QR code link to the digital ID of a student. This multimodality makes the student ID efficient for various uses and integrations.
Challenges we ran into
- Limited materials and resources.
- Lack of marketing skills and experience
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We developed a fully functional prototype
What we learned
From the many things we've learned, one of the most important is that prototyping is very different from production and selling.
What's next for ECard
If we are lucky enough for our project to be chosen, it will be time to put our prototype into production, sell it, and make our contribution to Rwandan society.
