Inspiration

Our inspiration was the taxing of internet usage on the power grid and how energy is wasted by redundant browsing.

What it does

Our project is a google chrome extension that keeps track of how much power has been wasted by visiting the same pages several times over while also calculating the estimated energy wasted, the cost of the energy wasted, and the webpage which has been re-opened the most

How we built it

We used the chrome extension framework to build our extension alongside several languages.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into challenges regarding the initial project idea which we had to scale back. Specifically, we wanted to make a simple web browser that would cache based on previously-visited sites. We also attempted to estimate ram usage but it got too complicated for us to do in the time we had available to us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Constructing the chrome extension in the limited time we had this weekend alongside making a presentable UI and logo for our project. Our extension is submitted to the Google Chrome Extension store for publishing.

What we learned

How to more effectively use the chrome extension framework and understanding Google documentation.

What's next for eBrowse

We would like to include more metrics for memory usage and seeing whether it would save energy to store the more re-opened website locally instead of just tracking its energy wasted.
