Inspiration
In a post COVID-19 world, we expect work from home to be the norm and people will mostly be having their meals alone. We are inspired to increase socialising during meal times, allowing people to feel less lonely.
What it does
Eat With Us is a platform that connects 2 strangers looking for to make a new friend through the course of their meal. Users can expect to connect with other users around the world and form new relationships over their meal. Once connected, users will interact with each other over voice through and they will be prompted questions to keep the conversion going.
How we built it
We built our GUI with Python, using the Kivy library.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges that we ran into were the lack of coding expertise and time constraints. We were unable to add in the voice chat function and for questions to be generated automatically.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we managed to come up with an idea and try to implement it under 24 hours. From coding to filming the demo video, it was definitely a very fruitful experience.
What we learned
During this hackathon, we managed to deepen our technical skills. More importantly, we learnt the importance of time management, working under pressure and team work.
What's next for Eat With Us!
Moving forward, we aim to definitely add in the voice call function to allow users to interact via voice. We also aim to fix the questions such that it will be generated randomly from a database. Other features we would like to add to the application includes having a friends list to add friends, different types of questions for different demographics, video call, buying your friend a drink feature, scheduling of meals feature and new mini games for users to play with each other.
