Eat greener's inspiration comes from the idea that although there are various food web databases and services, there are really none specific to more sustainable, zero-waste and organic restaurants. By creating this web platform, it helps users who specifically want to support
What it does 🧐
Eat greener acts similar to Yelp. It is a web platform where users can search for their specific location zip code and see eat greener restaurants around them and the distance. Users also can see eat greener's reviews on different restaurants and why we support them. Users can also login and signup to start their favorite restaurants.
How we built it 🛠
I built eat greener using HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP and SQL for the login database.
Challenges we ran into 🤨
I ran into a lot of challenges while building the web. First, I had trouble creating the login form (which now looks great but isn't really functional yet) because there were more components to it than I initially thought. Another problem that I ran into was inputting the map and the markers into the webpage. The last problem that I encountered was figuring out how Github pages work because it was my first time using it and I struggled to run the codes on there.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of 🥳
I am really proud of what I have created so far in this hackathon. This is my second hackathon and so I had a little more experience but it is still a great 👍 learning experience for me (I am also not a comp sci major and only started learning how to code 2 months ago :)). I am also excited that most of the links worked in that it is a clickable demo!
What I learned 😄
From this project, I learned that I don't really need a solid plan sketched out but only a rough idea in my head because the project will be very different from how I originally planned it. I also learned PHP and SQL because I have never encountered them before.
What's next for Eat Greener ☘️
For the future, eat greener will be a customized user web platform that is curated to the user's preference. Eat greener will also expand to all the states in the United States as the database is created in order to input into the web platform.
