Inspiration
We wanted to help WE-HEALTH health institute modernize their volunteering manager/tracker and took inspiration from Jira (product management software) to create a Jira-like volunteering manager
What it does
Project managers (WE-SPARK members) can submit projects that they're working on and require volunteers. Volunteers that have the right requirements can apply to the volunteer positions and help out the project manager. There is also an admin account that can control/edit/change projects and permissions/requirements of volunteer accounts
How we built it
We designed 3 different dashboards for the 3 different users we have (admin, volunteer, project manager), and then create a "flow" procedure for the projects to move around each stage of the project life cycle
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out how to design a website with 3 different user permissions, design a NoSQL database to work with our website when most of the data were relational
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Learning how to design databases to work with our website
- Getting a dashboard to be reactive and work with our database
What we learned
- Express, databases (Nicole)
- Designing databases and API endpoints for multiple user permissions (Ryan)
- UI and making project "cards" that are somewhat a page by itself
What's next for EasyVolunteer (WE-SPARK)
- Create an app
- Use websockets to allow for messaging on our platform (current uses email)
