Inspiration

Dyslexia is one of the most common learning disabilities, affecting about 5-10% of the population worldwide. Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that primarily affects reading, spelling, and writing abilities. It impacts the way the brain processes language, making it challenging for individuals to decode words, recognize spelling patterns, and understand written text.

What it does

EasyReader improves the user experience for individuals with dyslexia by making web pages more accessible. EasyReader is a Chrome extension that allows users to choose from a series of dyslexic friendly typeface that suits their personal reading needs. EasyReader represents a fusion of empathy, technological innovation, and a commitment to accessibility and inclusion.

How we built it

React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenges we faced included balancing readability enhancements without altering the original webpage's aesthetics, and learning how to implement a React framework.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completing our first Hackathon!

What we learned

We learned how to utilize React's component based UI building to develop a modular approach that encourages reusability, maintainability, and scalability.

What's next for EasyReader

We hope to continue improving EasyReader by:

  • increasing the customization options: expand font styles, color contrasts, and other settings to provide more tailored options for users based on their preferences.
  • improving compatibility: ensure compatibility with a wider range of websites and web applications.
