Inspiration

As teenagers, we often struggle to find opportunities to work and become financially independent. Seeing this severe drought of opportunities, we decided to create a website that congregates jobs for our fellow adolescents.

What it does

We created a website that is specifically targeted towards young adults looking to work. There is no other website that is specifically targeted towards adolescents. They can easily earn money, and work with people nearby on jobs like tutoring, outdoor work, or general assistance.

How we built it

We built our website off of a template from link. Using HTML, PHP, and JavaScript, we added multiple functionalities to our website. We continued by using WampServer to run and test our website, along with phpMyAdmin and MySQL for a fully-functional database. We even made a logo for our website! We were able to collaboratively work on the same code remotely using the Live Share extension in Visual Studio Code.

Challenges we ran into

As a team, we encountered quite a large learning curve as we are relatively new to web development. We had many roadblocks and challenges in learning php during this limited time frame. The biggest challenge we faced was the deployment and creation of the database for our website data. We struggled a lot when trying to figure out how to link the website to the database, and how to access and write data between the site and the database.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the deployment and functionality of the database, including entries, indexing, data retrieval, and sorting with categories/price/pay type. We are also proud of how well the website came out from the limited time period and our minimal experience.

What we learned

We learned how websites work with navigation and storing their data, in addition to what they use to make their website look visually appealing. We also learned a lot more about various coding languages, including HTML, PHP, and JavaScript.

What's next for EasyGig

We plan on making an account register and login page as well as background checks for all users of the website (job posters and mature teens). We also want to try and improve the navigation within the website by improving the searching and sorting functions within the website.
