Inspiration
Currently 16% of world population that is 1.3 billion people face some sort of disabilities that hinder their daily routine work. Thanks to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) & Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) most of the website provide the accessibility now to avoid the possible lawsuit but that does not cater to all kinds of disabilities including but not limited to motor impaired, color vision etc. Moreover accessibility should not be only provided but rather it should be made accessible easily at one place. This is still pain point with most of the websites where you have to install some software to make it work which is ultimately make people with disabilities depend on someone at some level.
What it does
Removes all barrier to accessibility - installing software/apps like eSSENTIAL. Also eSSENTIAL does not support iOS devices currently. Suggested product replaces this step as it provides the in-built support on website. Since it supports the website, mobile apps can be implemented with mobile website(This is alternative instead of opening mobile website in browser). How it works -
- User launches the mobile app (Android/iOS) .
- User selects accessibility icon on mobile app (Android/iOS) launch screen.
- We can load the app with website inside Activity (in Android) or UIViewController(in iOS ).
- Then customer with disabilities can use the tool to access the beauty website similar to desktop web browser.
How we built it
We have to always develop web site & mobile apps that are compliant as per ADA & WCAG guidelines. Rest can be done by tool that provide accessibility all in one place.
Challenges we ran into
It covers most of the disabilities that I came across, as I am not expert in disabilities there might be chances one or more disabilities are not get covered in this.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I will be happy to have something similar integrated/implemented in Estee Launder website for their customers who really get benefited from this.
What we learned
We not only need to provide accessibility but we need to make it easy to access for those who need it the most.
What's next for Easy Accessibility
Give it a try to understand pros & cons with existing solution in terms of UX/UI, usability, compliance & costing to make a decision. Alternatively check for any similar provider with all such benefits.
Note - I am proposing idea that we simply don't have to make websites accessible but also accessibility features are available on website itself in one place without any additional efforts like software/app installation otherwise IMHO it defeat the purpose. Suggested product(mentioned in deck) are as per my research & I do not endorse them by any means.
