When evaluating the accessibility of the McMaster building our team realized that the toilet paper dispensers in accessible washrooms were not all that accessible. EaseTP is a toilet paper dispenser that is designed to simplify the process in accessible bathrooms. Our design has a rachet gear system that prevents the toilet paper from getting stuck in the dispenser and thus making it difficulty to retrieve especially with limited mobility. It also included a handle that is pushed down to make it easier to dispense the toilet paper rather than having to pull it, which requires more force and dexterity. Lastly our product has serrated edge to make it easy to rip the toilet paper with one hand and/or less force.
EaseTP was built completely in Autodesk Inventor and could be 3D printed. Using the assembly feature in Autodesk Inventor our team was able to model how the different features of the dispenser would work allowing us to find any defects with the product. After creating an assembly of our product and checking all the features we feel that this item could be implemented in accessible bathrooms not only at McMaster but in all spaces. Our products aims to help alleviate any difficulties that users may experience and implement a universal design that aids all.
