Inspiration

As a customer of airlines, I have personally felt the need to swap seats many times especially for elderly people but couldn't do that as it is much of a hassle. Moreover, it is a rigorous task for on-flight employees. So, to ease the efforts of employees and enhance customer experience, we wish to automate this process of swapping the seats. Also, getting an assistance like asking for a glass of water requires two trips by flight attendants which can surely be optimized. Doing this would be helpful for the employees while providing ease to the customers.

What it does

First, it authorizes the users using QR code or PNR number. It then puts the seat requests into a back-end pool of requests. On receiving a new request, the algorithm finds an appropriate match and on a successful one, it notifies the airline's system along with both the users and they can swap their seats.

How I built it

We built a web application using XAMPP stack (PHP, mySQL), javaScript, and HTML.

Challenges I ran into

Finding an efficient matching algorithm and finding ways to ease employees' work and improve customer's experience.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We successfully implemented the seat swapping algorithm and automated airline services on flight functionalities given the limited amount of time.

What I learned

How to think from perspective of both service providers and receivers.

What's next for Ease My Flight

In future, we would like to enhance the experience by adding in more functionalities to the app like cab sharing, games, providing complete flight itinerary starting from home to final destination, etc.. We can analyze the data obtained by our system to provide targeted customer services and enhance their experience further.
