Inspiration: Recent earthquake in Turkey & Syria where more than 28,000 people lost their lives, 85000 injured and 1.3 million displaced. People still alive and buried under the debris could not be rescued timely.

What it does: The project can be used to provide timely information to the rescuers so that disaster can be managed effectively. In case of a disaster rescuers are flooded with millions of messages and phone calls, it is hard for them to prioritize the area most severely affected. Using this project, a message may be sent either by the victim or bystanders to the rescue team via a mobile app. The system then provides the rescue team with the messages along with their count and region details ( currently zip code but it may be enhanced to Lat/Long) which help them in efficiently deploying the available resources.

How we built it: The project has been built using the Solace Cloud platform. The mobile application has been developed on android.

Challenges we ran into : Technical issues were faced in integration with the Solace cloud. Less familiarity with Kotlin was also challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: Successfully building a cloud application.

What we learned: Developing a cloud application.

What's next for Earthquake Disaster Management using Solace: This is a small prototype which has been built. In future it will be upgraded to a real life system.
