Inspiration

Sometimes you don't know where to dispose of things. Should I recycle this? Should I throw it away? With Earthly, you never have to think about where to dispose of things again!

What it does

Earthly is a prototype that uses image recognition to suggest how to dispose of the items you show it. Then it suggests locations for you to dispose of the item properly.

How we built it

Earthly was developed using Figma.

Challenges we ran into

We tried implementing Earthly with actual machine learning. We got the model trained, but we couldn't figure out how to implement it in code, so we decided to prototype it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of coming up with a way to help solve the common problem that as a society we don't normally think about. It is second nature to use to throw away items that we don't know how to properly dispose of which increases waste.

What we learned

We're proud of learning some UI/UX design and using Figma, as well as the aspects of machine learning and using React, though we didn't end up using them in our final product.

What's next for Earthly

In the future, we'd love to implement Earthly into code and make it a full-fledged app using React. Due to our time constraints, we could not fully implement Earthly.
