EARTHCHAIN - LET US SAVE EARTH TOGETHER

Inspiration

We looked at the world and saw two crumbling pillars: our planet and our people. We were haunted by the escalating climate crisis and the despair of global unemployment. It felt like two separate, impossible battles. But what if they weren't? Our inspiration was a simple, powerful question: What if every person could become a direct guardian of our planet, and be rewarded for it? We envisioned a world where planting a tree wasn't just an act of charity, but an act of economic empowerment. This dream was the seed from which EarthChain grew.

What it does

EarthChain is a decentralized marketplace that turns every planted tree into a verifiable digital asset, fighting climate change and creating green jobs.

For the user, it's beautifully simple:

Plant & Photograph: You plant a tree and take a picture with your phone.
AI Verification: Our platform, powered by Google's Gemini AI, analyzes the image to verify it's a real, living tree and records its location.
Earn Carbon Credits: As your tree grows, it absorbs CO2. This sequestration is calculated and converted into carbon credits, represented by our native EarthChain Token (ECT).
Sell & Empower: You can list your tree's credits on our marketplace. Choose "Free Buy" for instant sales, or "Confirm Each Sale" to approve each purchase manually. This creates a sustainable income stream for individuals worldwide.

The result? We are building a living, breathing digital twin of our planet's recovery a stunning global map, soon to be filled with millions of glowing green dots, each one representing hope, proof of work, and a healthier planet.

How I built it

We built EarthChain as a full-stack application designed for a seamless, keyless user experience.

Frontend: A mobile-first React application, ensuring anyone with a smartphone can participate easily.
Backend: A robust Node.js and Express server handling our business logic and secure JWT authentication.
AI & Blockchain Core: This is where the magic happens.
- Gemini AI Dual-Verification: We integrated Gemini AI in two critical ways. First, for tree image analysis to confirm species and health. Second, for a secure Identity Verification process, where it analyzes selfie videos and ID documents for liveness and match detection.
- Keyless Wallet System: We abstracted away blockchain complexity. Upon sign-up (via smooth Google OAuth), a secure, custodial wallet is auto-created for the user. No seed phrases, no confusion.
- Smart Contracts: On the blockchain, they manage the issuance and trading of ECT tokens based on verified tree data.
Mapping & Data: An interactive global map using clustering to visualize the growing network of trees.

Challenges I ran into

The path was not without its obstacles! Our biggest challenge was balancing robust security with effortless usability. Integrating a keyless wallet system that remained truly secure required deep architectural thought. Furthermore agent refining together with the Gemini AI models to accurately verify a vast diversity of tree species from user-uploaded photos - which can be blurry or poorly lit was a tremendous task and to also also verify identity. Finally, navigating the initial stages of the fiat on-ramp integration presented a complex web of KYC and financial regulations that we are diligently working through currently and aiming to meet all requirements by mid December.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are bursting with pride over what our small, passionate team has achieved. We built a fully functional platform that demonstrably works from tree planting to token generation. We successfully humanized blockchain technology, making it accessible to everyone, not just crypto-experts. Our dual-use of Gemini AI for both planetary and personal identity verification is, we believe, a groundbreaking and a very unique approach. Most of all, we are proud of creating a tangible, working solution that has the potential to genuinely make our world a better place.

What I learned

This journey taught us so much. We deepened our expertise in AI integration and blockchain scalability. But beyond the code, we learned about the profound power of incentivizing positive behavior. We saw that people are eager to help the planet, and when you remove the barriers and provide a tangible reward, you can unlock a global wave of action. We also learned the critical importance of building trust through technology, which is why our AI verification systems are so central to our mission. We also learned to comply with regulations like GDPR.

What's next for Earthchain

Our journey is just beginning. Our immediate next steps are critical:

Finalize Fiat On-Ramp: Securing funding and completing the necessary verifications to activate our credit card purchase system, opening the platform to the entire world.
Scale the Green Dot Network: Our goal is to launch a massive global planting initiative, focusing on areas most affected by both deforestation and unemployment. We want to see that 3D map covered in green dots.
Refine Our Carbon Model: We will continuously improve the science behind our tokenomics. The accumulation of carbon credits is based on the growth and health of the tree, which can be represented by a simplified equation we're constantly refining:

Where $ C_t $ is the total carbon credits earned by time $ t $, $ k $ is a species-specific sequestration constant, and $ A(\tau) $ is the leaf area index representing the tree's health and growth over time.

We built the proof of concept. We have the vision. Now, we need partners to help us scale. We are actively seeking funding and strategic partnerships to accelerate our mission to heal the planet, one tree, and one person, at a time.
