Inspiration
I came up with this idea when my brother asked me some questions related to objects that you can recycle and trash. I thought creating a website where kids can learn about the environment would be interesting. Also, if these kids learn from a young age to take care of our Earth, they will grow up to be responsible citizens who will make decisions that benefit the environment.
What it does
Our website teaches young children about the environment and why it is important to preserve it. It also has some interactive activities that appeal to kids.
How we built it
We built our website using HTML, CSS, and JS. We also used pikselapp.com to make custom gifs that complement the content of our website.
Challenges we ran into
Anannya: Since this was my first time using JS, even executing basic functions was a challenge because I kept making syntax errors. But as I wrote more and more code, I made mistakes less frequently.
Angela: One of my biggest challenges was positioning elements on a page so that they fit and still looked nice.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of making a full website in such a short time.
What we learned
Anannya: I learned how to implement basic JavaScript to make web pages respond to user actions.
Angela: I learned how to use CSS to make web pages look better.
What's next for Earth Kids
Next, we will add activities that are more interactive and also a feature that allows children to find environmental events near them.
