EarBuddies

Inspiration

Our team noticed a lack of socialization among peers who are coming back to in-person learning. We figured that music could be an easy way to socialize and be an alternative way to meet new people. EarBuddies was developed with pen-paling in mind and is the basis of our app.

What it does

Earbuddies connect users to new people who want to share their music playlists or want to make a personalized music playlist. Through our app's pen-pal system, users can find new people to share their music with and make new friends. EarBuddies is also a safer alternative to traditional pen-paling where you don't need to share your physical address, all users need is their email.

How we built it

Our team mainly used Figma to brainstorm, idealize, and complete our prototype projects.

Challenges we ran into

We wanted to make a practical website for EarBuddies but weren't able to do so with the time constraint and lack of experience in doing hackathons. We figured that the best thing we could do was to utilize Figma for our project. We also encountered some issues with trying to make the app version. There just wasn't enough time to do the things we wanted so we simplified it to a mock website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the fact that we could come up with a unique idea within a day, and be able to make something that could benefit almost everyone. This was the first hackathon that we have done where it lasted throughout the entire day and we are very impressed at how well we stayed on task during the time constraint. Creating EarBuddies was such an accomplishment to us because we were able to touch on an idea that all of us wanted to do and then make it work to the best of our abilities.

What we learned

We learned that it's really difficult and time-consuming to create a website from scratch and some of us learned how to use Figma! We also learned a lot of collaboration skills and time management. Our team learned that lots can be developed in 24 hours, and with that, there's even more that we can do if we were given a week or a month.
