Inspiration
We were inspired by the metaverse, where people can connect virtually. Additionally, Chipotle's Roblox game was an influence. They made a Chipotle game where you can act as a worker. Once the playthrough was completed, the player was able to redeem a real chipotle code. It was a free coupon to Chipotle's new product at the time.
What it does
This project allows students and educators to interact in a stimulation-like world. Students have the ability to join a queue for office hours and leave the queue if needed. The queue box shows the student's queue position, and how many seconds until the next person's turn. Each student has 5 minutes with a TA or professor before it is the next student's turn. Additionally, any item can be used as intended. For example, doors can be opened, cars can drive, lamps can light up, trash can be thrown away, and anything physics-related (gravity, velocity, etc.) is applied.
How we built it
We used Roblox Studio, Roblox's free creative engine, to develop the objects and script the behaviors of those objects.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into include learning a new language, Lua, and getting comfortable with how Roblox Studio
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create something that includes our school. As engineering students, we are constantly in Rice Hall (the CS building) attending CS and engineering-related classes. To be able to recreate this building was truly an experience.
What we learned
We learned how to code in Lua, a language similar to C#, and learned how to use coding to graphically design–with some prebuilt objects–items within the world.
What's next for E-way is Z-Way
Creating the rest of the buildings in the E-way! We will eventually create Olsson Hall(Engineering Math building), Thornton Hall (Engineering Building), and many more! It will be a world where all engineering students will be able to utilize office hours and explore the engineering road!
