INTRODUCTION E-unit student management is an edu.tech company that designs solutions for educational institutions. E-unit was founded in 2022 and its sole drive is to eradicate manual data entry in educational institutions in Nigeria.

ABOUT E-unit student management started with the idea of seven individuals whose vision is to eradicate manual data entry and cut out operational cost in nigeria education institutes as well as to positively impact the carbon footprint by eliminating excess use of paper in school administrative units.

Acknowledging the changing dynamics and technological advancement in the educational sector globally, our focus shifted to encouraging and enabling more university management units to be tech savvy and to automate data processing which includes data sharing, data entry and delegation process, ensuring a secure and timely transfer of data between different units in a university.

PROBLEM The usual process which involves the use of paper by several units in higher institutions for data collection, managing and synchronizing student/academic staff data manually. This process makes data entry very people dependent,susceptible to delay, makes work tedious, inconsistent and in cases of incident such as fire outbreak loss of vital information.

• Case study 1: According to research, in 2018 a university graduate (name withheld)who lives in Edo state received her nysc call up letter and she was posted to ebonyi state, when she went for her clearance she noticed that the informations that was attached to her files wasn’t hers, in fact the only thing that belonged to her was the name on the file and as such she was denied clearance and was even invited for questioning by the officers at the clearance venue, that day and week didn’t go well for this young graduate as she had to travel inter-state which resulted in time and money being wasted.

When further investigation was made it was noticed that the mistake happened when her details was manually filled in her file, the officer in charge at student affairs filled someone else’s details on her. If her full details were imputed in the computer and forwarded to her service center the possibility of that error occurring would have been less than 20%.

• Case study 2: In 2020 two university students had their grades interchanged because the exam officer had a lot of paperwork to do, the exam officer got overwhelmed and interchanged the students grades unknowingly.

When further investigation was made, it was discovered that both students had the same surname and their mat number looked alike, thus the mistake. If their names and grades were originally uploaded to a computer the possibility of such error occurring would have been less than 20%.

SOLUTION Considering the above problems E-unit student management built an app with power apps called e-unit.

e-unit is an app designed to enable university departments to upload, manage and synchronize student/academic staff data and perform other related tasks. You can log into the app either as a student (course-rep) or a staff, and these set off people can only access data they are authorized to see. The app interface enables documentation of staff/student profile, fee records, course information, leave request, emergency broadcast etc.

5. Conformance to standardized data exchange in Nigeria universities as educational practices are rapidly changing from print to digital.

CONCLUSION
There are a total of 16 tertiary institutions in Edo state with an average of 6 faculties, 50 departments, 10 academic staff per department and 2 course reps.

With the above statistics, E-unit student management will be able to reach out and aid at least 9,600 individuals per state.
