What it does

E-snap makes energy habit alteration fun by providing monthly thematic challenges, which encapsulate daily tips and fun facts related to the main focus. Here at E-snap, join a community of energy savers who support and motivate you on your journey to reduced energy consumption.

E-snap comprises of three main groupings of features: Challenges, Profile, and Communicate. Within challenges, six different energy challenges are available for selection, each with a brief blurb describing these challenges. One can view current challenges and daily tips or past completed challenges, as well as select a new challenge. We plan to implement a notification system each morning with that days tip. Additionally, our team is midway through implementing a "Favorites," which involves the use of a star-shaped button on the daily tip, if the user particularly enjoys one tip, and wants to make it a permanent habit.

Favorites is a part of the "Profile" grouping. Here, the user can view their favorite tips, organized by challenge theme. They can also see a summary of their tip success rate in History at the end of each week, promoting accountability. Finally, About Me will incorporate user behavior and location to tailor tips.

Communicate encompasses all workflows for building a community. We plan to connect to Google Sign-in Authentication to implement the My Buds and Find A Bud.

How we built it

Using Android Studio, we developed an android app.

Challenges we ran into

Neither of us had previous experience developing apps. In the development process, we hit a series of road bumps. For example, we struggled to implement even a basic app to begin with, though found to our past these initial hurdles. Additionally, we found version control challenging, and certain error seemingly inexplicable as they would occur when the program would be housed on one computer and not another.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built an app! We learned a great deal about basic app development through navigation of activities. We feel confident now that we have a solid foundation upon which to build a more fully fledged fluency in Android app development.
