E-learning Mobile App

High costs of books and data charges, unreliable internet and intermittent electricity are impacting negatively to education and literacy on Africa Sub-Sahara. Our app is the ultimate solution.

Inspiration

We are inspired by the huge passion that we have for the development and sustenance of literacy among the rural masses.

What it does

The platform is a practical, suitable and sustainable solution and it will:

  • enable content from a server be made available to smart phones and tablets without the need for an Internet connection to serve that content to offline users (teachers and learners) and thus emulate the real-world classroom environment;
  • have a fully-fledged digital learning management functionality that will adopt a social constructionism theory, be built around a sound educational philosophy and be learning centred;
  • User friendly for the illiterate and semi-literate (e.g. make use of sound and visual and graphic elements);
  • employ cutting-edge technology to customize and add/curate educational resources/ content (video, audio, document files or interactive apps);
  • help improve quality and relevance of education, increase equity and access to education and improve learning governance and management; and
  • all-inclusive, it will not discriminate by ensuring that the right to education is enjoyed by everyone, young and old; urban or rural; rich or poor.

How we will build it

We will build the platform using

  • PHP to create the server side of the app
  • PHP to connect the the app's webpages with the database
  • MYSQL to build the database as well as manage and hold data
  • HTML to build the user interface for content
  • CSS for styling and appearance
  • Javascript to handle the behaviour of the interface
  • Current and innovative technology to enable the app to communicate with the APIs without availability of the Internet.

Challenges we expect to ran into

Adoption of new technology is a huge challenge in Africa. Connected to this is lack of support by most ICT projects.

Accomplishments that we will be proud of

The biggest accomplishment will be being able to provide a solution to education and literacy which is one of the biggest challenges in Africa.

Sharing ideas from different parts of the world. Collaboration on a project using Github.

What's next for E-learning Mobile App

Having proven to be a versatile solution, we will work in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in our respective countries to lobby for its adoption within the education sector.
