Inspiration
Emergency medical services lose time in efficiently helping a patient when asking about basic medical information instead of just working to help someone. When they reach their patients, paramedics have to be careful when doing any medical procedure with them because they don’t know what allergies and other complications they may have. Our application is designed to combat some of the many problem, which includes providing dispatchers and paramedics with the important info they need to know before they treat their patients at the instant they receive the call, translate non-English speech to English for helping paramedics communicate with non-English speakers, and location tracking so dispatchers and contacts can track where the patient is in real time.
What it does
Med-Link can be used by people to alert EMS to provide basic health information, show off local tracking for people who are in the vicinity who may need help, a smart locator/gps to show the ambulance vehicle the fastest path to the patient. There is also an AI assistant chatbot (either via texting or speaking) who can speak to the patient and help walk them through what to do/keep them calm in a high stress situation.
How we built it
Using js, html, css, and py for the backend. The initial setup of the website gui was mostly coded by us, then utilizing gemini copilot on VS code, and another app builder, we found a way to build the base of the project.
Challenges we ran into
The API keys we were suing sometimes back fired and otherwise keeping the entire project together with all the AI models was a bit tricky.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We finally got the conversation AI voice model to work last night, so you can now have a clean conversation with an AI to keep the patient calm in their distress.
What we learned
We learned how to utilize more generative AI and APIs and implement them into our code.
What's next for Med-Link
Implementing use of notifications to loved ones of the patient. Add in a direct Emergency calling service. Make improvements to the AI Voice Assistant. Add more tools for emergency contacts to use
