However, I noticed that many online perfume stores either overwhelmed customers with too many options or lacked a personal touch in guiding them to the right fragrance. Inspired by this gap, I set out to create a curated, user-friendly platform that helps people discover their signature scent with ease and joy. What I Learned Building StevenPerfume.store was a journey of growth. I deepened my understanding of e-commerce platforms, particularly Shopify, which I used as the backbone of the store. I learned the intricacies of inventory management, payment gateway integration, and search engine optimization (SEO) to ensure the site ranks well on Google. Additionally, I gained insights into user experience (UX) design, realizing how small details—like clear product descriptions and intuitive navigation—can significantly impact customer satisfaction. Working with suppliers taught me the importance of quality control and building reliable partnerships in the fragrance industry. How I Built the Project The project began with market research to identify popular fragrance categories and customer preferences. I chose Shopify for its robust e-commerce features and scalability. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

Platform Setup: I customized a Shopify theme to reflect the brand’s elegant and modern aesthetic, ensuring mobile responsiveness for a seamless experience across devices. Product Curation: I partnered with reputable fragrance suppliers to offer a diverse range of perfumes, from niche artisanal scents to well-known luxury brands. Features Implementation: Integrated a search and filter system to help customers narrow down choices by notes, brand, or occasion. Added a “Scent Quiz” feature to recommend perfumes based on user preferences. Set up secure payment gateways (Stripe and PayPal) and configured international shipping options.

Marketing: Leveraged social media (Instagram and Pinterest) and Google Ads to drive traffic, while optimizing product pages with SEO best practices.

The site was tested rigorously to ensure fast load times and a smooth checkout process before launching. Challenges Faced Building StevenPerfume.store wasn’t without hurdles. One major challenge was sourcing authentic, high-quality fragrances while keeping costs competitive. Negotiating with suppliers and verifying product authenticity required persistence. Another obstacle was designing a website that balanced aesthetics with functionality—early user testing revealed that some customers found the initial navigation confusing, which led to a redesign of the menu and product categorization. Additionally, driving organic traffic in the competitive e-commerce space was tough; I had to experiment with multiple marketing strategies to find what resonated with my target audience.
