Inspiration
We were inspired by the theme of productivity and wanted to create something that was easy for students to use. Due to Covid-19 many people used the Discord app more frequently which then gave us the idea to make a discord bot. We knew people that use discord usually implements bots that help their quality of life in the server so we decided to make a general but efficient discord bot named UniBot.
What it does
There are multiple features to our bot such as creating events, printing out a list of the events, calculating the average time between your house to Ryerson University, creating polls and a friendly greeting :).
How we built it
We built it using Python, using the existing package, discord.py. We collaborated over Discord and Github, sharing our code and splitting up tasks to ensure maximum efficiency and no overlaps in code.
Challenges we ran into
Everyone in the group did not have experience using discords programming methods so group members were learning as we were developing UniBot
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The bot works Everyone was able to contribute a piece of their own code to the final product The collaboration between the members strengthened the relationships
What we learned
Discord.py was a new concept for half of our group members. We were presented with challenges of learning and applying it towards our code.
What's next for UniBot
We will try updating it with more features such as having a reminder system, and being able to edit the tasks lists (e.g remove tasks, change the order). Also implement daily reminders for all members in the group (eg, drink water, eat, workout etc)
