Inspiration
Our team wanted to address the education track. As we were coming up with ideas, one that popped up was to bring awareness to dyslexia. About 5-10 percent of people have it and approximately 17% of people around the globe have reading challenges similar to people with dyslexia as well. Which is a lot of people. So we rose up to the challenge of making a website that informs about dyslexia and help people with dyslexia learn better by various activities.
What it does
Our website has interactive fully working activities that has prove to help people with dyslexia to learn, such as through word games, audio books, etc! It also has information and education on dyslexia, for people who want to learn more.
How we built it
Our team used figma for prototyping, then we manually coded it into a fully working website with HTML, CSS, Javascript then deployed our project to the web with Replit for ease of access!
Challenges we ran into
All our team have very busy schedules and different time zones. Communicating was a little hard but we pulled through in the end. We didn't get as much time as we wanted, but we are happy with our result. The one thing we didn't have any problems with was this awesome community of organizers, attendees, and awesome workshops!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very glad we were able to pull through and finish. We'd have liked to get more activities done, but we're proud of what we've been able to make.
What we learned
We learned that next time we should definitely make due dates for aspect of the project so we can maximize the use of our time. We also learned how to make games using javascript and improve our knowledge in dyslexia through our research!
What's next for Dyslexic Tutor
We are planning to add more activities as much as we can. And make it more accessible, such as adding sign language & audio translation. We want this project to help people gain an awareness of what dyslexia is and that dyslexics know that they're not alone and there's lots of people that will support them.
