Inspiration 💡

The Dysgraphia Web App is a project driven by a personal connection with a friend who battles dysgraphia. This learning disorder affects one's ability to write legibly, leading to challenges in self-expression and communication. There is no cure to this disorder, and students are at the most risk in their educational lives. Witnessing my friend's struggles ignited a passion to address this issue. The app's mission is clear: to empower individuals with dysgraphia by transforming typed text into personalized, legible handwriting. By creating a bridge between technology and education, this tool aims to boost self-esteem, enhance communication, and foster inclusivity. Through the Dysgraphia Web App, I aspire to make a tangible difference in the lives of students who confront this often-overlooked challenge.

What it does 🚀

This program converts what you type on your computer into your own handwriting, then allows users to print it out. Since it prints in ink and mimics your handwriting, It acts as a carbon copy of their your handwriting.

How we built it 🏗️

  1. Python OS module
  2. Python Pillow library
  3. Python Flask
  4. HTML
  5. CSS

Challenges we ran into 💥

The main challenge that I encountered was ensuring the generated handwritten content aligned perfectly with the lined paper while accommodating different text lengths posed another obstacle. Also, I struggled to come up with a User interface that wasn't very bright and colorful to allow users reading on Dysgraphia understand the impact of the disorder, while also not making it too dull.

Accomplishments that we're proud of 🏆

This web app has the potential to alleviating the struggles of countless students around the globe, which is a huge accomplishment to me.

What we learned ‍🎓

Learning the Pillow library from Scratch. The library was very vast, and I needed to dedicate countless hours just to master the basics. But it paid off in the conclusion of the web app!

What's next for Dysgraphia web app 🔮

The journey ahead for the Dysgraphia Web App is brimming with exciting possibilities. Building on the app's foundation of personalized handwriting synthesis, I'm committed to continually enhancing user experience and expanding its capabilities. However, this app could be placed on the internet, rather than on a local host, to allow individuals around the globe access to my app. Moreover, the app could be using machine learning to automatically detect and map text from any image, instead of having to upload a filled out template.
