Inspiration
1 in 5 people has dyslexia. Most were told they just needed to try harder. We built DysFix because the problem was never the student — it was the design.
What it does
DysFix takes any reading material and restructures it for neurodivergent learners. Claude AI breaks content into digestible chunks, reads them aloud with word-by-word highlighting, generates visual concept maps, and hands complete control of pace to the student. A "Confused?" button re-explains any chunk using a simple analogy. All preferences and reading history are saved locally and encrypted — the student owns their data, always.
How we built it
Claude API for intelligent chunking and re-explanation, Web Speech API for audio, Mermaid.js for concept maps, Web Crypto API for local encrypted storage, OpenDyslexic font, built on Replit.
Challenges
Balancing feature richness with calm design — every addition had to earn its place by reducing cognitive load, not adding to it.
What we learned
Dyslexia isn't a reading speed problem. It's a working memory problem. Most tools solve the wrong thing.
What's next
Mobile app, federated learning at scale, more languages, co-design with the dyslexic community.
