Inspiration
Many musicians (including members of our team) have been struggling with metronome practice for years. This is due to the metronome being a device that has never been through innovation besides being moved from physical to your phone.
What it does
It will adjust the tempo of the metronome according to the sheet music which you are practicing, allowing you to practice without major stoppages. It will analyze the sheet music beyond just the tempo markings and look at other articulations to help you practice with musicality that reflects the piece.
How we built it
Using Gemini to analyze the sheet music and machine learning models to identify the BPM, we built our app.
Challenges we ran into
Due to the constant changes throughout the sheet music, analysis of the tempo markings, dynamics, etc. presented some difficulty
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to slow down the metronome to practice at slower speeds while keeping proportional speed ups and slowdowns.
What we learned
We learnt how to implement Gemini to not only scan PDFs but also analyze sheet music.
What's next for dyme: a dynamic metronome
Build it further to be able to get bpms from audio files, and apply the expressiveness initiative to those as well, so musicians who learn by ear are able to put their own spins on songs they learn as well.
