Inspiration

The thought of not doing your bit during this epidemic inspired us to come together and use our various skills to come up with a solution.

What it does

DYB “doing your bit”, is an educational app for social distancing. Using GPS and bluetooth technology, the app tells you how many people you’ve come in to contact with, within a 2-meter radius on your daily outing. Create a household team to monitor each other’s social distancing. Accumulating too many encounters will impact you and everyone else’s score of 100 in your household. After a few isolating days, your score will start to replenish. The app will register contacts lasting longer than 2 minutes. The data will be saved as a potential exposure for the next 14 days. With a built-in virus symptoms checker, we can update your exposure list immediately to self-isolate. Every day the app will monitor the recovery of confirmed infected users and guide you to the necessary help and advice. Users can set the lever of environment risk they feel comfortable with which therefore means they will be immediately sent a notification if they're within a 2-meter radius for longer than 2-minutes of someone who has not been social distancing.

How we built it

We built the app on native iOS and Android. The backend is built using Go, InfluxDB and Redis

Challenges we ran into

The major challenges we faced was building something useful in a short space of time. We wanted the app to be user and location-specific. Following government report data, it was a challenge to make the maths make sense. We’re proud of creating something everyone can use and benefit from. Our goal is to help save lives by educating.
