What's next for Dwellr
Dwellr was inspired by our personal experiences as OSU students navigating the housing process — moving twice, scouring Reddit threads, and reading the official housing report — and realizing how overwhelming and scattered housing information is for freshmen. We wanted to create a single tool that organizes everything a student needs: verified landlord ratings, an interactive housing checklist, and local student deals, all in one place. Through building Dwellr, we learned the importance of user-centered design, real-time data handling with Firebase, and efficient team collaboration, while also practicing how to craft a story-driven demo that engages users quickly. We built Dwellr using React and Tailwind for a responsive frontend and Firebase for backend functionality, implementing features like live-updating landlord reviews, a step-by-step move-in checklist with progress tracking

×100%, curated student deals, and a heat map that lets users select preferences to view customized housing options. Challenges included consolidating scattered housing data, integrating real-time updates, and designing a tool complex enough to be useful yet simple enough for first-time users. Dwellr ultimately transforms the freshman housing experience by reducing stress, saving time, and helping students make informed decisions — truly a curated “playlist” for OSU housing.
