Inspiration
The spark for this project came from my own experiences with outdated property management tools. I often found myself wondering why existing portals felt so behind the times and how they could be vastly improved. This curiosity naturally led me to consider the transformative potential of AI in this space.
From these reflections, a clear vision emerged: to build a truly modern property management system. My goal was to create a solution that not only streamlines the complex process of managing properties for administrators but also significantly enhances the living experience for tenants. I wanted to create something better for everyone involved.
What it does
DwelloAI is revolutionizing how property managers and tenants interact. We offer a user-friendly interface for property managers to effortlessly oversee their portfolio, providing crucial insights into occupancy rates, performance, and financial metrics. Our intelligent ticket management platform streamlines maintenance requests and tenant inquiries, ensuring efficient handling and routing.
For tenants, DwelloAI provides a personalized dashboard where they can monitor property usage, easily request maintenance, and even ask questions to an AI assistant (feature coming soon!) for quick access to information about their property.
DwelloAI simplifies operations for managers and enhances the living experience for tenants, creating a more connected and efficient community.
How we built it
DwelloAI was primarily built using Bolt.new and Supabase and all the work was done by 1 developer (me). Supabase was used for some of the backend functionality but most of the work was done by Bolt's AI.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, I had challenges getting Bolt.new to produce a usable UI but after many iterations and prompting, I was able to get a beautiful looking responsive UI that functions well. I also ran into some issues with my project (aka context window) getting too large and ran into errors sometimes. Overall, it didn't block my progress too much and I was still able to deliver what I set out to do.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I had this idea brewing in my mind for a while and I am pretty proud of the fact that I was able to make it come alive in a couple days via this hackathon . This really showed me the potential of AI powered tools like Bolt.new.
What we learned
It's a bit harder to do backend or build AI agents with Bolt.new. My ideal vision included AI agents that would handle the treasury functions as well as the property management functions with a human-in-the-loop system but this turned out to be more difficult than I thought.
What's next for DwelloAI
I have a couple improvements I would like to make and they fall into 3 categories:
For larger communities (e.g. an apartment building), I would like to add an AI agent to automate the property management function. This would be a human-in-the-loop system but a single human could manage multiple properties which this kind of system. I would also like to automate the treasury function (bookkeeping, etc.) using an AI agent. Finally, I want to add an intelligent routing system that takes tenants maintenance requests and contacts Taskrabbit or Thumbtack to fulfill this maintenance request. This would alleviate property managers from having to keep staff on retainer thus saving them cost.
I would like to add a free of charge self-serve model for smaller communities. There are thousands of small communities of homes or townhomes across North America and they could use this system to help streamline their own management. These communities usually have volunteer members on the board who undertake the job of managing the finances and getting work done for the betterment of the community. I want to automate as much of these functions as possible so the volunteers and the members have to spend very little time ensuring their community is managed well.
I would like to add a way to monetize DwelloAI via service providers from Taskrabbit and Thumbtack. Service providers (plumbers, electricians, etc.) would bid on maintenance requests or projects and DwelloAI would take a cut of that. This would provide a sustainable revenue source for them as well as DwelloAI.
