Inspiration

The inspiration for Dwarpal came from a desire to make cultural heritage more accessible to everyone in India. Museums are treasure troves of history, art, and culture, but the ticketing and accessibility processes often discourage visitors. With modern AI-powered tools and virtual assistants, we realized an opportunity to simplify these processes and enhance the visitor experience.

What it does

Dwarpal is a comprehensive virtual assistant that transforms how people interact with museums. It enables users to book tickets, plan visits based on crowd density, pre-order snacks, and access accessibility features like tour guides and wheelchairs. With targeted promotions and seamless user experience, Dwarpal ensures visitors can focus on exploring and enjoying their museum visits.

How we built it

The project leverages a robust tech stack:

  • Backend: Flask for handling APIs and user interactions.
  • Machine Learning & NLP: TensorFlow and NLTK for natural language understanding.
  • Database: MongoDB for storing user and booking data.
  • PDF and Barcode: FPDF and Python-Barcode libraries for ticket generation.
  • Email Services: Yagmail for automated email delivery.
The entire solution integrates these components seamlessly, creating an efficient and user-friendly experience.

Challenges we ran into

  • Integrating NLP with the chatbot: Designing a conversational flow that handles a variety of user intents was complex.
  • Crowd monitoring: Real-time updates on crowd density required combining external data sources and predictive modeling.
  • Scaling ticket generation: Ensuring the system could handle high demand during peak times was critical.
  • User engagement: Crafting targeted marketing campaigns required careful personalization without compromising user privacy.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Seamless User Experience: Successfully developed an intuitive chatbot interface that enables users to book tickets, access museum facilities, and plan their visits effortlessly.
  • End-to-End Ticketing System: Built a fully automated ticket generation and delivery system using FPDF and barcode libraries, ensuring error-free and efficient operations.
  • AI-Driven Personalization: Implemented natural language processing (NLP) to make interactions more human-like, providing personalized recommendations and assistance to users.
  • Crowd Density Monitoring: Designed a system to predict and display real-time crowd density, helping users plan visits on less crowded days for an improved experience.
  • Accessibility Features: Integrated essential facilities like wheelchair and tour guide bookings, making museums more inclusive and user-friendly.
  • Scalable Architecture: Ensured the system is scalable to handle peak traffic and bookings during high-demand periods.
  • Promotional Marketing: Developed a feature to auto-generate targeted advertisements for museums based on user interests, enhancing marketing effectiveness.

What we learned

Building Dwarpal taught us the importance of user-centric design and system scalability. From handling real-world datasets to integrating machine learning models into a production-ready application, we gained valuable technical and teamwork skills. Moreover, we learned how technology can simplify cultural experiences and promote heritage preservation.

What's next for Dwarpal

We plan to:

  • Expand Dwarpal’s features to include VR/AR-based museum tours.
  • Implement support for more languages to cater to India's diverse population.
  • Collaborate with more museums and cultural sites for a wider reach.
