Inspiration:

DVC Connect was inspired by the need for a centralized, secure digital space for Diablo Valley College students to navigate campus life, academic resources, and social opportunities more efficiently.

What it does:

Our MVP streamlines the student experience through five core pillars:

  • Campus Feed: A real-time hub for campus news, study partnerships, and social activities.
  • Marketplace: A secure, verified, student-only platform for buying/selling items.
  • Student Directory: A networking engine to connect with peers by major.
  • Club & Events: A live calendar to join clubs and RSVP for events instantly.
  • Verified Student Access: A security-first system ensuring a trusted community via student ID verification.

Problem it solves

With this website, students don't need to visit different website to participate in college life anymore. For example, in current situation, students have to:

  • Visit email for school information
  • Visit DVCsync AND Instagram to check club activities. The complexity made many students not aware of many campus life activities.
  • Visit outer website to buy used item (which is not safe) while we can have our own safe and convenient trading communities on campus
  • Vtudents need to sign in with their names and Student id. This keeps the community safe and transparent to everyone All in all, if this idea could be added to DVC program, it would help connect students together and eliminate the gap of information between students. It will result in development and improvement as a whole community.

Chanlleng we Faced

In the development of this project, we encountered two significant challenges regarding data integration and user privacy that required careful consideration:

  • Student Identity Verification: A primary challenge was the implementation of a robust student verification system. Currently, we lack the infrastructure to independently verify student credentials, as this process requires a formal data-sharing partnership with academic institutions to authenticate student statuses against official records.
  • Privacy and Legal Compliance: We also faced complex questions regarding the directory feature and the protection of student privacy. Ensuring that we respect individual name privacy while remaining fully compliant with relevant data protection laws is a top priority for us. As we are currently prioritizing the core functionality of the platform, we have not yet had sufficient time to conduct a comprehensive legal review or seek professional counsel to guarantee that our directory implementation meets all necessary legal standards.
