Inspiration
Since I was young, I always loved playing games and I was highly motivated to develop games, so I started learning programming and developing games with the help of amazing frameworks/softwares like Kaboom.js, Phaser3, Pygames, Unreal engine 5, etc. The main reason I started working on Dungeon Slayer is because of my two favourite games Ghost Of Tsushima and Elden Rings. I love the concept of soul games with exploration. Hence i wanted to add those main elements in Dungeon slayer featuring a retro style look. The game is currently under development but the first beta can be accessed! The 3d continuation game ( later in the roadmap ) can also be seen in the Github repository.
What it does
It's basically a 2d top-down game featuring, animations, states, enemy AI, attacks, sound effects, etc. With the ultimate goal of having exploration system and will be the first 2d souls like game on blockchain. There will also be a 3d continuation game for Dungeon Slayer
How I built it
I built it Using Pygame module in python
Challenges I ran into
implementing the save and load system, implementing enemy and player collisions and getting the animations to run at a good rate were some of the hardest challenges I faced during making this game.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
After working for hours i had a complete game with enemy AI, etc. and a basic prototype of a 3d continuation game with a clear roadmap and getting exposed to new opportunities like deploying the game on blockchain and start making a 3d game for the sequel, which was very motivating and fun!
What I learned
This project surely helped me grow as a developer as it exposed me to new challenges as well as opportunities like coming out with new solutions to debug the code, adding uniqueness, thinking of adding logic, etc.
What's next for Dungeon Slayer
This game is currently more dungeon styled with limited options, my plan is to expand my team and make it more open-world style with NPCs, new bosses, more weapons, better animation and a final piece which is retro styled 2d SOUL GAME. The long term plans for Dungeon Slayers are to create a p2e style game which can run on a blockchain and help people earn tokens for defeating bosses and finding new gears and playing. The final stage for this game would be a 3d continuation game, which i have already started working on ( Demo video on Github )
