Current development status
Team ZZero has a working prototype built with Unity. Combat, manual reloading, and two-player co-op are implemented. Hand tracking is not yet implemented; full controller-free interaction is planned for the competition build. The hands-first interactions described below represent the target experience.
Project concept
Dungeon of FEAR is a hands-first multiplayer VR horror shooter set in a brutal, claustrophobic version of Hell.
Players fight their way upward through narrow corridors, rooms, and elevator-based levels, using their own hands as the primary interface. Melee combat is physical: punches, spiked knuckles, and tomahawks calculate damage based on hand speed, swing distance, and impact. Firearms use gesture-based manual reloading, grabbing, throwing, and weapon handling.
The core experience is designed around 2-player co-op, with physical interaction between players: passing weapons and magazines, helping teammates, and surviving increasingly dangerous levels together.
The goal is simple: you are dead, you are in Hell, and the only way out is up.
The project is being designed specifically for Meta Quest with hand tracking as a core gameplay mechanic rather than an optional input method.
Team and development timeline
Team: ZZero. The concept originated on September 25, 2026. The prototype was created after the competition opened on September 24, 2026.
Next steps
Implement end-to-end controller-free hand tracking, validate the complete cooperative experience on Meta Quest, and prepare the competition build and gameplay demonstration video.
