Inspiration

Both of us have high levels of interests in procedural generation and roguelikes, and limiting ourselves to only be able to work with the command line provided and interesting challenge.

What it does

Dungeons of Curses is a traditional roguelike that runs completely in the terminal and provides an arcade experience by having a public leaderboard for others to compare their high scores.

How we built it

The vast majority of the project was programmed in Python using curses for the interface, as well as multiple databases and libraries including pyyaml, MealDB, and CocktailDB.

Challenges we ran into

Curses is a very old library, originally written in C and used for the original Rogue in 1980. Additionally, we found pathing for the enemies to cause trouble, but we were able to find a Python library to help us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have participated in multiple Hackathons in the past, and this is the first time we are truly able to say we are proud of our end product.

What we learned

There are many random and interesting APIs out there that may just come in handy for a project.

What's next for Dungeon of Curses

The game could benefit from an Entity Component System to make the code more organized and run slightly faster.
