Inspiration
Techamon Farm is inspired by the creature-collecting excitement of Pokemon, the base-management loop of Clash of Clans, and the cozy pixel-art charm of games like Stardew Valley.
What it does
Techamon Farm lets players hatch, collect, train, and care for magical creatures called techamon. Players send techamon on quests, earn coins, EXP, gems, and eggs, then use those rewards to upgrade the farm, grow crops to feed tachmon, unlock better quests, and hatch stronger techamon. The aim is to collect them all!
How I built it
A lot of research and many years of playing great games helped me come up with the concept. I used image generation tools to help with visual assets.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was cutting scope. When designing a game, you want to cram everything in because it's easy to dream. But, I remind myself that the best games are often the simplest.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I love the art design of the techamon. I'm proud of creating a clear, cozy game loop that connects collecting, questing, farming, and upgrading into one system. I'm also proud of how techamon can work as both game pieces and fun companions, giving players reasons to care about the game.
What I learned
Game design is a long and winding road. Writing about your game can help you design it because it forces you to be clear about how systems work. Working on the submission certainly helped refine the Techamon Farm concept.
What's next for Techamon Farm
Implementation of course! Game design is great, but nothing beats bringing an idea into reality.
