Inspiration
We are a fan of games like the Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon and we wanted to make something similar. We really wanted to present it in a unique way which is why we decided to set it in an environment that should bring back some memories.
What it does
Simple enough really, the game (hopefully) runs and leaves you to fend for yourself against an onslaught of malware, who will be attacking you in waves!
How we built it
It's still sort of a mystery to us but we managed somehow. We used Unity as our game engine which allowed us to program it in C#. We started first with a simple arena and an enemy to shoot at and we built up from there.
Challenges we ran into
Too many to remember! Our main issues were collaboration and source control as Unity didn't play nicely with Git, and itself. We also had issues getting scripts from one device to work on another.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Well, some may say that our real accomplishments are the friends we've kept along the way but I'd say our wave generation script! We think the project also has some very commendable artwork, especially considering the time constraints.
What we learned
We naturally learned a lot about Unity (and how slow it can be) but learnt about the wonders of Git. Alongside learning more about C# and how it allows us to create Unity scripts.
What's next for Dungeon.exe
While getting it to work properly was a miracle, we had so many ideas we had to leave out so it would be nice to get the chance to implement them in the future.
