Inspiration:

Dumplings, a popular dish consisting of dough wrapped around a tasty filling, exist in cultures around the world in many different forms, flavors, and textures. Homemade dumplings are especially desired for the fresh fillings, which can include meat, fish, cheese, vegetables, fruits, or even sweets. However, the process to make homemade dumplings can be very tedious: after the filling is prepared, it must be portioned out into small dollops into each dumpling wrapper, then hand-folded together in a ruffle-like pattern. We hope to bridge the gap between homemade dumplings and factory-made dumplings with an easy-to-use dumpling maker.

What it does:

User makes the filling, places the wrapper on the mold, presses the button, the filling is deposited, the mold closes and then releases the perfect dumpling! Check out our demo video here: link

How we built it:

We used 80/20 materials to build the structure of the machine. The container of filling is made of two cups with a hole in the base of the bottom cup. A servo controls the knife that cuts the filling. For the folding portion, a servo controls each half of the 3D printed dumpling mold.

Challenges we ran into:

Mounting the filling vat was difficult because of the circular shape of our container. Another challenge was making the dispenser flush with the knife that cut the filling because it required a lot of precision.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of:

We’re proud of the dumpling former!

What we learned:

We learned that CAD should be examined closely before...

What's next:

Adding conveyer belts for bringing in and taking out dumplings

Sensor system to detect that a new wrapper has been placed
