Inspiration

Raising awareness about the impacts everyday choices have on our environment.

We know it can be difficult to feel like you can make a difference, so by highlighting the impact of everyday items such as laptops and phones, we hope to motivate people to take steps to improve their own carbon-footprint by making more informed decisions

What it does

Provides an online battle quiz app based on the style of higher-or lower; the questions asks to choose the item with the higher or lower carbon-footprint. You can enter lobbies with your friends or join a random group and compete to get the highest score.

Data for the questions is directly pulled from the Ditch Carbon API.

Questions can vary in difficulty by finding items with footprints closer together.

How we built it

We used agile sprints, meeting every 2-3 hours for a progress report and to update our trello board, with all our sprint backlog to decide what tasks needed to be completed next.

Challenges we ran into

We had a team member drop out, and an un-fixable issue with one of our computers that heavily reduced what we could code.

Flask was also much more flexible than we should be allowed, with constant type errors tripping us up.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It actually kind of works sometimes - and it looks good on mobile!

Multiplayer is something new to all of us and we had a lot of fun testing it against each other. We also love how it looks, and are proud of our duck costumes.

What we learned

Web development is next to impossible to do anything how you want. We also learned the importance of not getting tunnel visioned with not letting one idea take up too much time as this limited our progress, and when we let go we were able to accomplish a lot.

What's next for Ducking Carbon

We have tons of left over features to add which we can't wait to get going, including sabotaging others, sea-levels that rise with each question and adding more game modes.
