Inspiration
I remember as a child when it would take me 10-15 minutes to get out of bed. It was tough and school did not excite me. Wished I had something entertaining to do when I woke up to get me awake.
What it does
With Duck Duck Snooze! you can set alarms and turn them off as they go off. The goal is to turn them all off before they go off. You must jump out of bed ASAP to keep the ducks from ruining your day. What a delightful way to start your day, wouldn't you agree?
How we built it
To build it, you must have a server host the flask application to act as the goose (preferably a RPi zero), esp32 boards for the ducks (as many ducks as you want), and buzzers for each alarm. You must also turn your duck into a WiFi hotspot with the following credentials:
SSID: ducknet PW: DuckNet1234
Pull my GitHub repo to get all the files.
Then upload the WiFi server folder code to the esp32 boards using the Arduino IDE. After that, all that's left is to plug in all the buzzers (code shows pins used) and run python3 main.py on your goose. Super easy!
Challenges we ran into
So many! We couldn't 3D print the ducks, had a hard time programming in C, we ran out of wires, couldn't even get rubber duckies, cut open a finger, ran out of snacks, got super tired, and we couldn't use buttons to turn the alarms off initially. But it all worked out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we finished our project! We're also happy to have learned more about computer hardware like the ESP32 boards.
What we learned
We learned the importance of planning, working as a team, and drinking caffeine. We also learned so much about embedded system development, flask, GPIO's, and threading.
What's next for Duck Duck Snooze!
Hopefully we'll refine it more based off of the suggestions we receive. We also want to add a dedicated button, refine the wiring, add duck sounds to the ducks, and actually 3D print ducks and goose to use to replace our origami ones!
