Inspiration
Duck Duck Doom was born out of community feedback from Horizon Worlds. Many users, especially those on mobile, found existing experiences too complex or slow-paced. Meanwhile, friend groups were looking for something fast, chaotic, and social—perfect for quick breaks between meetings or during downtime. We set out to create a game that was instantly accessible but still delivered wild, laugh-out-loud moments—and what’s more unexpected than a flaming rubber duck bouncing through a quant farm?
What it does
Duck Duck Doom drops players into a chaotic arena where a massive, fiery rubber duck begins to ricochet from wall to wall, eliminating anyone in its path. It's a last-player-standing brawler with fast respawns, constant motion, and relentless fun. As the duck ramps up its speed and intensity, the chaos only grows—especially now with the introduction of themed events and explosive effects to shake things up even more.
How we built it
We used a blend of the VR and desktop editors to develop the game: VR tools for detailed environment work and desktop tools for scripting and logic. AI-powered generation tools played a big role in accelerating our process—from scripting snippets to sound effects and assets—helping us get creative faster.
Challenges we ran into
We learned working with code we hadnt touched in a long time is hard!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Thousands of players have already jumped into Duck Duck Doom, and the feedback has been incredible. Seeing players laugh, strategize, and scream (in a good way) as the duck barrels toward them has been one of our proudest moments. We've gotten better at balancing community feedback with design vision, and that collaborative energy keeps pushing the game forward.
What we learned
No test group can compare to a live lobby full of players. Watching real people break, bend, and beat the game taught us more than any internal test could. We’ve learned to hotfix quickly, monitor lobby stability, and design with both small and large groups in mind.
What's next for Duck Duck Doom
We’ve expanded the game with new event frameworks, allowing us to introduce seasonal content and visual effects—like our latest event, complete with over-the-top fireworks. We’re laying the groundwork for player customization and seasonal rewards to keep things fresh and encourage long-term engagement. The duck’s only getting hotter.
