Inspiration

The inspiration for Student Central came from seeing the struggles students face globally in accessing quality education and resources. We wanted to create a platform that connects students with tutors who can provide academic support, both for free and at an affordable rate. Additionally, we were motivated by the idea of giving back — using a percentage of the earnings from paid tutoring sessions to help fund college tuition for underprivileged students. This concept of combining learning with social impact drives our mission to make education more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

What It Does

Student Central is a comprehensive web app designed to support students in multiple ways:

  • Find Tutors: Students can find tutors for specific subjects or modules, with options for both free and paid sessions.
  • Marketplace: An online marketplace where students can buy and sell second-hand books and educational resources.
  • Community Forum: A space for students to share opportunities like internships, scholarships, and graduate programs.
  • Events Page: A dedicated section for posting and discovering educational events, hackathons, and other activities.

How We Built It

We built Student Central using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js) to ensure the platform is robust, scalable, and responsive. The web app was developed with a focus on user experience, integrating features like secure payment processing for paid tutoring and efficient data handling for user profiles, transactions, and resources. We used Azure services for hosting and cloud storage to guarantee reliable performance and accessibility for users worldwide.

Challenges We Ran Into

During development, we encountered several challenges:

  • Data Privacy and Security: Implementing strict data security measures to protect user information and ensure safe transactions.
  • Global Payment Processing: Integrating a payment gateway that supports various currencies and payment methods while minimizing transaction fees.
  • Scalability: Designing an architecture capable of handling an increasing number of users and data without compromising performance.
  • User Engagement: Creating features that encourage active participation within the marketplace and community forum.

With these future plans, Student Central aims to become the leading platform for connecting students, tutors, and educational opportunities worldwide.
