Inspiration
One community so integrated within our lives, yet so often overlooked is the community of those with food allergies. Seeing friends and families struggle with food allergies and having food allergies ourselves, we wanted to address the problem of the exclusivity of food against people with allergies. We also discerned the inefficiency and difficulty of trying to eat a meal amidst a busy schedule. We decided to merge these two ideas by creating DubSnacks, a meal plan app meant to help raise time management efficiency, increase food safety and awareness, monitor finances, and limit food waste.
What it does
Our project helps food services across campus with time management because students will be able to pre-order meals and allocate times for pick up. Kitchen staff will be able to have all the meals ready by the time students show up at the cafeteria and eliminates the need for lines. DubSnacks also improves food safety and health awareness in college dining by being allergy friendly and allowing the input of food preferences. It also helps students manage finances by having graphs of the students’ past spending and using that data to predict how the student may spend in the future and give suggestions on how students should alter their spending habits. Finally, DubSnacks is meant to limit food waste because dining halls will be able to know exactly how many meals they should be making so they will not make too many extra meals.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud that we were able to code something this year. We have been a team before at a previous hackathon; but, we were not able to code anything. This time around, our goal was to code some aspect of our project and we were successful!
What we learned
We learned that it's okay to not know how to do something, whether that be coding or designing or leading a project. We just need a starting point and the mindset to keep learning, no matter where we start from.
